Veterans Honor First Year Longfellow Music Instructor
American Legion Commander James Schorzmann presents Cade Bruna, music instructor at Longfellow Elementary, Rockport and Rosedale Colony Schools, with a Certificate of Achievement/Appreciation for his “Veterans Day Concert” by Longfellow 2nd and 3rd grade classes, while Legion Adjunct Hugh Holmes speaks on the importance of the recognition.
When the Longfellow 2nd and 3rd grade students sang their hearts out in honor of local veterans, in their school’s first concert of the year and their teacher’s first concert ever as an instructor, the Mitchell branch of the American Legion took notice. Pulling out all the stops, Legion Commander James Schorzmann and Adjunct Hugh Holmes presented Mr. Cade Bruna with a certificate of appreciation and achievement, the South Dakota Legion Coin, the State Commander’s pin, and a Corn Palace coin from the Bud Williams collection. The concert was held on Monday, November 15 at the Performing arts Center and included a Presentation of the Colors by Legion and National Guard members, the Pledge of Allegiance, patriotic songs, and important quotes from American history. The program included the Armed Forces Medley, during which members of each branch of the service were invited to stand during their branch’s part. The program concluded with a request for all veterans to rise, followed by a rousing show of appreciation by all in attendance.
