Nine seniors show off their ‘Teacher Signing’ T-shirts at the MHS event on May 11.
Nine graduating seniors at Mitchell High School ‘signed on’ as aspiring teachers on May 11, pledging their intent to study education at college and enter the field upon graduation. The soon-to-be-alumni of MHS—Gabby Garrels, Maddy Henkel, Olivia Huber, Samantha Kludt, Morgan Schutte, Heaven Brinker, Jayden Jones, Liam Semmler, and Zachary Van Meter—will be attending USD, DSU, DWU, and the University of Minnesota in order to earn their teaching bona fides. They will be teaching elementary education, special education, middle school mathematics, high school level American and other history, and post-secondary chemistry. Commented Mitchell school superintendent Joseph Graves on the crop of future educators, “We are giving some of our very best back to education. I just hope their first resume upon college graduation is mailed back to 57301.”
