MHS Class of 2020 celebrates virtual commencement

Senior Kelsey Dahme offers her commencement address, Not Alone Together, But Stronger Together, to the MHS Class of 2020.
Two weeks in production, the virtual commencement of the MHS Class of 2020 went live right on schedule at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 17, 2020.  The exercises unrolled pretty much as they do during a traditional commencement, complete with Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstances, senior vocal performances, two student addresses (by Rebecca Bechen and Kelsey Dahme this year), the awarding of individual diplomas, and the presentation of the Class of 2020 to the School Board, family and friends. The event was preceded by an impromptu ‘drive-by’ parade down Main Street where many seniors stood by their banners featured in Main Street businesses and were regaled by family and fans in cars as they drove past and offered voluminous support.  Special thanks to Mr. Bruce Mastel for his work on the virtual commencement video, Mrs. Erin Fowkes and the many contributors who made the banners a reality, and Dr. Joe Childs for pulling the whole event together and devoting weeks of time and effort to making it a success.  The video can be seen by clicking on the ‘Schools’ Tab on the District website, going to the Mitchell High School website, and clicking on the Commencement tab. Congratulations Class of 2020!
